This game differentiates itself from its predecessor.  Even when the gaming concept is similar in style, the gameplay is not boring.   The creators of the original series added more focus in using the Wii Controller for additional upperbody exercise.  Additionally, the new series of mini games will help the players in hand, eye, and foot coordination.  For example, the juggling mini game requires the player to use the Wii Balance Board to control the juggler position on the screen by shifting their foot weight while he catches balls that are being tossed at him and juggling these balls by flicking the Wii Remote at the correct time.  This game is just one of many new additions that require a lot of coordination.

Some of the new mini games that are unique and fun are Obstacle Course, Rhythm Parade, and Skateboarding Arena.  In obstacle course you use the Wii Balance Board to control your game character to move by stepping left and right and jumping by extending your legs up quickly.  When you play the game you will be reminded of being in a real life Super Mario Brothers platform game.  The player must decide when to move, jump, or wait as he proceeds through the course with the set amount of time of each course.  As for Rhythm Parade, you will march to the rhythm of the beat of the music by move your legs left and right on the balance board.  Once you have establish your fool rhythm, you will perform separate hand movements with both hands indicated by screen icons all while you are continuing the basic marching rhythm with your legs.  As you successfully march and perform more hand movement, your screen character will be join by more and more marching band characters it is amusing to watch and challenging at the same time.  Lastly, the Skateboarding Arena will have the player turn their balance board perpendicular to the screen as if they are using a skateboard.  You will navigate the course by tilting your body on the balance board.  Your character can jump on their skateboard if you extend you legs quickly on the balance board.  This is a creative way to implement the use of the peripheral in a game.

As for using Wii Fit Plus as a workout platform, all of the old character data and progress in the original Wii Fit is carried over automatically when you insert the new game into your system.  The creators of this game improved upon the original Wii Fit by adding much of the missing elements of customizable workout routines.  You are now able to create a series of workout from different activities.  With the new feature My Wii Fit Plus, you will be able to add multiple exercises to a workout routine to help target different focuses that tones different body parts or serve different purposes.  This is a great feature because you don’t need to pause in between different exercises to plan your next move.  This is a much needed function that was missing from the previous installment.  Also, the game will allow you to create a routine by combining different workouts that tones different body parts into a single routine.  That way, you have a balanced workout that target different desired body parts.  If you want to plan a serious workout without any mini games, you can use the new feature My Routine to create a workout with just the yoga and strength training exercises.  You can extend the workout time to as long as 2 full hours.  The fitness trainer within the game will give you advice and words of encouragement according to your workout progress and the performance of your workout.

Also, a much needed calories and metabolic equivalent rating (MET) counter has been added to tell the player the amount of calories they have burned off according to their weight, height, age.  Now you can monitor your progress as you exercise or play the mini games.  Moreover, there is an additional function where you can select a food you want to eat and the game will display the calories you needed to burn off and track your exercises as you burn off these calories.

Some other additional features include Pet Stats where pet owners can have a pet look alike within the game.  Although the Pet Stat feature is not an additional game or workout, pet lovers can now put their pet into the game and track their pet’s weight.  Any pet owner will find this whimsical.   Another addition to the game is the multi-player mode.  You can now challenge your friends in 9 different mini games to see who can achieve a better score.  You and your friend will each take turn to compete against one another in different mini games.

It would be unfair to call Wii Fit Plus just a game.  Nintendo tried to create fun workout software that suit a large target audience.  These workouts primarily focus on cardio training.  If you are looking for a workout similar to burning off calories like running 30 minutes on a treadmill, then this software is the wrong title for you.  Although not all the exercise and mini games light hearted, the focus of the workouts is toning your muscles.

If you are an owner to the original Wii Fit, you can purchase this game for a low price of $19.99.  Considering the amount of mini games, exercise, and new features, this game is worth the money.  As for gamers who do not own the Original Wii Fit or the Balance Board, the new bundle will cost $99.99.  The bundle comes with both the new Wii Fit Plus and the Wii Balance Board.  If you are looking for a game that will fun for the family and give them a good cardio workout, this bundle is a must have for any Nintendo Wii owners.
