Presentation:

The setting of the game is of the exact likeness to the movie.  From the restaurant to the Masquerade Party to Mama Odie’s house, the locations will be easily recognizable for those who have seen the film.  The characters closely resemble the cartoons from the movie in appearance (as humans and as frogs).  One feature of the game enables the player to change outfits and accessories to the characters.  One of the mini games even involves choosing a dress for Charlotte, Tiana’s best friend.  Fans of the movie will remember Charlotte’s abundant wardrobe of dresses and enjoy the many outfit offerings that the game has for its characters.  As you go through the different stages of the game, your main goal it to accumulate beads and restaurant upgrades so that you can not only customize the restaurant (colors, fabric, backgrounds) but you can keep adding menu items so that the restaurant becomes a true four-star restaurant.

Graphics:

The graphics of the New Orleans environment and objects are true to the film in 3D animation.  The design and color in the game is bright and crisp.  The characters have gestures similar to the characters in the movie often making it difficult to distinguish the video game character from the cartoon character (aside from the limitations of video game graphics).  It is comparable to the 3D animation in Mario games (Mario Party 8, Mario Kart, etc.)

Sounds:

Voices are those of the actors from the film so the characters stay true to their overall likeness from the film.  Having an original voice cast is something rare and only adds to the overall quality of the game.  The sound effects are those that you would expect from a Disney film, which also makes it enjoyable for kids.  Similar to many video games that have mini games, the winning character will smile and applause, while the losing characters express dissatisfaction.  While in storybook mode, as the characters talk with others, the sound quality is clear, but there is also captioning on the bottom for those who prefer to read the dialogue.  The music in the background is New Orleans Jazz music, and throughout the game you can unlock certain songs to be played in the restaurant. Tracks are easily recognizable if you have seen the movie already.

Gameplay:

The main controls used on the Wii remote are the control pad for moving the characters around and the A and B buttons for selecting objects/playing the mini games.  Before all of the games begin, there are visual instructions on what controls to use and how to handle the Wii remote before you start which makes this very kid-friendly.  When walking over to characters that you can speak to, a question mark or some other object will hover above there heads indicating that you can walk up to them, and press A to speak to them.  After completing each mini game, you are rewarded with beads as well as other items such as clothing, jewelry, or fabric swatches for the restaurant.  The game is set up so that you go through different parts of the story (i.e. Act 1-5) as flashbacks and complete the mini games in that setting.  Each time you complete an Act, the restaurant is updated.  The ultimate goal is to have the restaurant look like and be a successful four-star restaurant.  This game can be played with a single player or up to four players, which makes it more enjoyable to play the mini games when you are competing against friends instead of the computer.

Longevity:

The beads are the main reward which are shown each time you complete a mini game.  You can also collect them by finding them hidden in other items.  These beads can be used to purchase more clothing, jewelry, and items for the restaurant.  The more beads you collect, the nicer upgrades you can purchase for the restaurant.  Also throughout the game, you can collect songs that can be played on the stage at the restaurant.  Along with the beads, you can collect different food ingredients to make different food dishes to add to the menu.

Conclusion:

Overall, this is a fun game that fans of the movie will enjoy.  With the different mini games and the possibilities to keep earning new clothing, jewelry, and upgrades for the restaurant, it has longevity and will keep you entertained for hours.
