In this Year’s HKAW Chinese New Years Gala, the line-up of multi-cultural performances was simply spectacular.  The exciting atmosphere of the event was boasted by an opening ceremony of traditional lion and dragon dance and martial arts performances by Master David Leong and his students.  Followed by music from Seattle Symphony’s musicians, the crowd was truly mesmerized.  Then, Luly Yang and her professional models presented the audience with some captivating modern fashion designs on the catwalk.

To share the Chinese culture, the Association also invited Master Rujun Wu, the Master of Jing-Hu (Classical Asian Instrument). Master Wu’s unsurpassed music skills weaved an exemplary performance. With his classical instrument arrangement and a blend of piano and synthesized modern music, the notes tapped into the hearts and souls of everyone. When he stops, the whole room was in a standing ovation yearning for an encore.

Behind all these glamorous performances, the Hong Kong Association of Washington had not forgotten about the philanthropist for their continuous contributions. Along with introducing the establishment of Hong Kong Association of Washington Foundation, the late Dr. Austen Chan and Mr. Phil Smart Sr. were awarded with the “Spirit of Hong Kong Award”.  The purpose of these awards is to recognize those who had supported and cared for our communities. These great efforts had conglomerate the unity of power and harmony through out our community.
