(AP, Spokane) Two men were trapped several hours in the wreckage of a pickup truck early Monday after an accident in Spokane County near Valleyford.

The sheriff’s office says speed and alcohol may have contributed to the truck leaving the roadway. It hit a tree and rolled more than 50 feet down a hillside.

The 20-year-old driver and 27-year-old passenger both had to be extricated by firefighters. The passenger was airlifted to a Spokane hospital with leg fractures. The other Spokane County man was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Deputy Mike Brooks says there were beer cans at the scene, but because so much time passed before the wreck was spotted it is unlikely the driver will face charges.
