If you are a food lover, London might be a little disappointing to visit. Authentic English food is hard to locate between the plentiful Italian restaurants that litter the streets. The damp and grey down sadly cultivates a culture that does not embrace authentic cuisine. There are more cafes than restaurants. Once I went to “Samurai” since I was crazy for some noodles. To my surprise, I got a bowl of Thai fishcake Udon in five seconds. What I did is to pick up a paper bowl which is indicated as “Thai fishcake Udon” from the food shelf and go to the cashier. The cashier put hot water in my bowl while he handled money.

In addition, Londoners are good at upgrading fast-food stores into fancy restaurants. Don’t be surprised when you step into McDonald’s. It is not in its trademark yellow & red, associated with its strategy to keep a fast pace of customer flows. Alternatively, McDonald’s in London is in dark green, with a decent design that makes you want to stay there forever. It may sound a little bit exaggerated, but trust me, McDonald’s has become one of my favorite study places because of its comfortable couches, the great lighting and amazing free wi-fi service. Another surprise is Pizza Hut. I swear I won’t go in there if I dress up in normal Seattle style with my heavy traveler backpacks. Here in London, Pizza Hut is definitely a place where you can have a date.

However, chances are that you will end up eating your dinner at a pub. Pubs are clustered in Central London, just like Starbucks in Seattle. And most people like standing outside the pubs with a glass of beer in their hands. The traditional food you can get in pubs is Fish and Chips, typically served with mashed peas. It usually goes well with beers since both of them serve as a channel to spoil myself.
