As a bonus, the winners from the University of Washington’s Asian Students Commission 2010 Talent Show also made an appearance. The opening night showcased the rich singing voice of Clairbel Novelo, and the masterful skill and synchronization between classical musician Alice Leung and Eric Zhang. Local sketch comedy Charles also joined the first half of the show, leading to much stomachache caused by intense laughter.

Other guest artists are lined up to open for the Pork Filled Players as well, including Chinese yo-yo masters Eric Wu and Eric Liao, singer/songwriter Kyle Andrews, sketch comedy team Killer Donut, and international sensation Assaulted Fish.

Even with the jaw-dropping opening acts, the main show does not disappoint. Its uniquely woven stories kept the audience interested the entire time, even those with the shortest attention span. Its humors are genuine and refreshing, unlike many used, worn, and well abused jokes encountered in some other shows. The short sketches are all surprising in one way or another. The actors many times lead the audience to a familiar scene, only to have them break out in laughter and in admiration of the writers’ creativity.

The Pork Filled Players is the Northwest’s longest running Asian American theatre as well as Seattle’s oldest sketch comedy group. The show will run Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm at Theatre Off Jackson until May 15. The tickets are $14 general and $12 students/seniors, with group/online purchase discounts available.
