When it comes to buying denim, it’s important to pick jeans that will look good when you try them on, and after a few wears.

Pick the right size:
When I worked in the designer denim department at the store, a seasoned employee told me that the denim should be very tight because they loosen up as you wash them and wear them. She buys jeans where she can’t even button them yet. But after a few times wearing it, it gives you the perfect fit every time.

Pick the right wash:
Different washes give you a different appearance.
Lighter washes are more fun, whereas darker washes tend to look more professional, or best for going out at night, and black jeans can come off as more “rock n’ roll” as well as great for going out.

Pick the right style:
Skinny jeans are in, and will stay in for a while. Currently the hottest trend is denim leggings (some call them jeggins = jeans+leggings). A good, comfortable fit, and looks great in heels and boots. Other styles such as boot cut, straight jeans and such may also work for different styles as well.

Here are some great places to shop for jeans:
Low-Range price jeans: Target, JCPenny, American Eagle, PacSun
Mid-Range price jeans: Express, Hollister, Abercrombie
High-Range price jeans: Nordstrom, Macy’s IMPULSE, Net-a-Porter
