When these two face off in the summer Olympics this year, Team USA had better watch its backside, since China was handicapped in this match up by the absence of its two top players. They might well give the USA a tougher run for the hoops when they meet again in London in 2012.

The 10-minute quarters were quickened by a lack of foul shots and breaks that often interrupt action in NBA games. Both teams played hard to win, while playing very clean. Team USA made some very impressive 3-pointers and regular 2 point shots, which China’s team made some vicious layups and drives towards the hoop. The USA team also displayed much better coordination through all four quarters of the game, while the Chinese got a bit less technical as time wore on. Even with the significant score lead by the USA women, this was an excellent match up, and showed the skills of both country’s top female basketball athletes.
Key Arena, home of the Seattle Storm, provided a worthy venue. The density of the crowd and excitement that reverberated up to the rafters were a strong reminder of the days before Seattle lost its (now) Thunder.
