The Holly Zhang Pearl Gallery opened on Nov. 1, 2011 in Bellevue, specializing in unique designer pearl jewelry.

In early days, pearls were extremely expensive and only affordable to wealthy people. The advent of cultured pearls starting early last century but vastly expanded in the late 20th century has vastly changed the pearl market. Both saltwater and freshwater pearls are cultured, and grown on pearl farms. Pearls have become much more affordable, especially freshwater pearls.

Many people recognize the beauty of the pearls in new and elegant modern designs. Pearls exhibit a subtle softness, but also color and brilliance, a perfect complement to femininity, making pearls a natural key element for endless design possibilities. How to turn these possibilities into real fashion jewelry is what fascinates Zhang.

The basic gems are hand-picked by Zhang, who travels twice each year to China with her own new designs that are fabricated there according to her personal instructions. Zhang closely follows current and emerging fashion trends to create a unique and constantly changing line of jewelry. She tries to combine superior findings available from the U.S. and Europe with the best freshwater and saltwater pearls and other gems available from Asia, Japan, Australia, and Tahiti.
